SSS (feat. Frank Sidebottom) - Skate And Destroy 7"

Liverpool's premier thrashers team up with Timperley's top light entertainer Mr. Frank Sidebottom on this free 7 incher that came with their Dividing Line LP (which is excellent as well). Sidie offers introductions to a few tracks then gets a go himself. You know he does, he really does.

Tracklist:
1 - Skate And Destroy
2 - Flick The Swtich
3 - Get In The Van
4 - Pull The Plug
5 - Ride The Best
6 - Frank Sez...

Vic Bondi - Ghost Dance

Vic Bondi was the singer and occasional guitarist of Chicago hardcore legends Articles of Faith. AoF were some of the best songwriters in the early hardcore scene and this skill carries through into this solo acoustic album. Bondi has this to say about the album; "This record was probably the first acoustic record to come out of the hardcore scene, and the most difficult record I ever recorded. Most of it was written during a very hard winter, 1985-86."

Bondi's day jobs have included teaching history at the University of Massachusetts and working on Microsoft Encarta.

The record itself is more downbeat and personal than AoF's political punk but is one of the best solo albums to come out of any band ever.

Tracklist
1) Don't Turn Away
2) Heat Lightning
3) Montana
4) Healing Moon
5) If She Wants To Play The Game
6) Getting Nowhere
7) Abilene Sunset
8) Mister Noon
9) Bitter Monday
10) Cambridge
11) Jennifer

The Dils Discography

The Dils were an early Californian punk band formed in 1977 by brothers Chip and Tony Kinman. Originally from Carlsbad, CA, they relocated to San Francisco and then to Los Angeles. They played good melodic punk with a proto-hardcore edge and stringent leftist politics with songs like 'I Hate The Rich' and 'Class War'. Chip and Tony Kinman went on to form country punk band 'Rank And File'

Their discography consists of three 7"s released between 1977 and 1980.
The first was "I Hate The Rich/You're Not Blank" in 1977 which was a raw slice of youthful punk politics. The same year the "198 Seconds of The Dils" 7" came out on the legendary Dangerhouse Records label. The title sets the record's mission statement out quite nicely. A short, sharp attack of leftist punk with 2 songs, "Class War" and "Mr. Big", being thrashed out in just over 3 minutes. The next release was 1980's "Made In Canada" 7" (so called because, surprisingly enough, it was recorded in Canada). This record took a slower, more roots rock approach which would continue on to Rank And File that always reminded me of The Clash (especially on Red Rockers).

Crash The Pose - 1 Sided 7"

Crash The Pose were a band that featured half (I think) of the members of the UK's best punk band, The Shitty Limits. Their MySpace seems to have disappeared so info is, unfortunately, a little thin on the ground.

Unlike The Limits, Crash The Pose were more straight forward fast as fuck hardcore. The songs on this record were intended to be on a 4-way split 7" but they pressed 220 copies of this one=sided vinyl to take on tour with them. Since its one-sided there's only about 3 minutes of music but its raging none the less.

Stay Broken Up is my particular highlight and some bands should really take this to heart:
"For the cash
Not for the kids
All expenses paid
Ego trip
35 with a dead end job
Reliving the old days
You're just a cock"

Tracklist:
1 - Out Of The Loop
2 - Stay Broken Up
3 - The Sum Of The Parts

Black Flag - Police Story: Live

Here's a nice little bootleg from Black Flag recorded in 1981 (?) that I ripped from the 7".

Dez might have been Black Flag's worst vocalist but he gives one of his better performances here as they rip through some absolute classics including 'You Bet We've Got Something Personal Against You' with Dez singing instead of Chuck Dukowski, who did the vocals on the studio version.

Tracklist:
1 - Police Story
2 - Depression
3 - Nervous Breakdown
4 - You Bet We've Got Something Personal Against You
5 - I've Heard It Before
6 - Jealous Again
